The article deals with the actual problem of assessing the degree of resonance of an event based on the study of relevant videos and comments to them posted on the service youtube.com. The research was conducted with the aim of timely and reasonable identification of events that have signs of public resonance. To achieve this goal, the concept of public response and the mechanisms of development of this phenomenon are considered. Based on the analysis of methods and approaches to assessing public opinion, a model for assessing the resonance of an event has been developed. It is based on measuring the angle of inclination of the tangent to the graph of the distribution of the number of comments in time relative to the abscissa axis. To measure the slope of the tangent, cubic spline interpolation is selected. Based on the proposed approach, software has been developed to collect data on the distribution of the number of comments over time. It also builds an approximated graph and measures the slope of the tangent at any point on the graph to find the maximum value. Using the approach presented in the article, you can automatically identify the most resonant events, the content of which is presented in video format on video hosting sites. It is assumed that comments on them can be freely posted.
